FAQs Retail Site Database
The Trade Dimensions Retail Site Database brings you store-by-store details for the retail industry – the only comprehensive macro and micro view available. This one-of-a-kind repository is the primary source for many of our indispensable Directory products – the “go-to” marketing tools for professionals who need a complete understanding of the marketplace. This Database reflects Trade Dimensions’ commitment to accuracy and reliability, with millions of changes made every year to keep you current. Individual store records are comprised of optional data modules that can be combined to create a customized database that meets your needs. Data can be licensed in any configuration of modules. All of the modules listed below are available for grocery sites – other sites contain some, but not all of the modules listed below.
Your company can license the entire country by trade class or choose stores by any market definition, state, zip code, or individual retailer. The data can be delivered on a one-time basis or can be updated monthly throughout the license period. Data is available in all standard formats and is compatible with major spreadsheet, database and mapping programs. To find out more about our Retail Site Database call Trade Dimensions at 203 222-5728 or use this link to email us for more information: tradedimensions.info@nielsen.com Frequently Asked Questions
What format is the data delivered in? The data is usually delivered as DBASE file (*.dbf), but since it is essentially a flat file, it can be delivered in a variety of ways including a comma-delimited text file (*.csv) or even an Excel spreadsheet (*.xls). Can I display the stores on a map? If you choose to license the Geocode data (Latitude/longitude) you will be able to plot the stores on a map using any common mapping application. Note however, that we do not supply mapping software -- you must purchase an application on your own. What do you mean by "Estimated Volume?" Trade Dimensions tracks the volume of stores on an ongoing basis, by a variety of means including direct retailer input. Information from all the sources is weighted according to the credibility of the source, as well as compared to historical information, industry norms (average revenue/sq. ft. for that format) before being inserted into the active store databases for client use. A quarter of a century of experience doing this, as well as the fact that we have deeper ties in the industry than anyone else, allow us to produce the most accurate estimates available at any price. However, while we do produce a weekly volume estimate, that estimate is an annualized number and does not necessarily correspond to a given week during the year, nor is it guaranteed to be 100% accurate. How can the data be used? Our license restricts redistribution or sharing of the data with third parties, but is otherwise flexible and allows your company to embed the data in its own database structure. Common uses range from simply using the data to compile an up-to-date store list, to using volume estimates for the purpose of developing comps, or evaluating the potential profitability of a property. We currently have a number of financial clients using the data to determine the worthiness of properties for financing purposes. How long does it take to get the data delivered? We can usually process any order within five business days or less, depending upon the complexity of the selection. |
